Unintended Consequences
2024
Glacial flour on indigo paper
Unique variable edition of 4 screen prints
The image depicts an Ice Watch drawing- a series of negative space drawings made with glacial 'flour' on glass watch faces.. Here, a photographic image of an Ice Watch drawing of the Bietschhorn glacier is reproduced here four times, printed with glacial flour - finely ground rock sediment produced by the scouring action of glaciers.
Inconsistencies in the printing technique render the image differently each time. Arranged in sequence the image appears to be slipping away, becoming lost, distorted, or corrupted like a data transmission sent back from the future or from outer space. The work was developed through the support of the William Littlejohn award from the Royal Scottish Academy 2024 and was produced and with support from Glasgow Print Studio.
Unintended Consequences is part of the wider Emergency! project about stuff emerging through the loss of glacial ice in the European Alps.
